This article aims at presenting brief life sketch and scholarly contributions by Qazi Ahteshamuddin Muradabadi. He had many fronts to impact through his works of periodical literature, translations, poetry, and a commentary Tafseer-e Akseer-e Azam of the Holy Scripture culminated in hefty volumes. His commentary has a very clear and simple diction of Urdu prose which was a rarity among his contemporaries. Criticizing Sir Syed Ahmed Khan on his slanted interpretations of the Holy Scripture, he held him accountable in his Tafsir. He also edited periodicals like Mazharul Islam and Nizamul Mulk in 1884. He oft-quoted Persian historical text Muntakhibul Tawarikh and Fatawa-e Aalamgiri. This article dispels misconceptions about his association with Maulvi Abdul Haq in compiling his Lughat-e Kabir. The article provides his couplets as well. He held his pen name Faryaad. His poetic diction is as simple as his prose is.
