Abstract

This article aims at providing credible details about the real author of Persian mathnavi Sada-o Purkar. This article quoted many couplets from the work evidencing to prove that work is authored by Laiq Jonpuri instead of Abdul Qadir Bedil. The poet was alive when Aurangzaib Aalmgir reigned. Aurangzaib was then seventy-year-old and the peot prayed for him to live until one hundred twenty years. There had been many poets whose pen name was Laiq. But, Laiq Jonpuri was the poet who composed the work.  The work dealing with subjects ranging from ethics and Sufism (taswwuf).  It also mentions multiple reasons for misconceptions leading to it. The manuscript preserved in Tonk, India has the name of Abdul Qadir Bedil as its author in the colophon (tarqima) of the work. This is a facsimile edition which was edited in 2011 by Sahibzada Abdul Moeed Khan, Director, Rajhistan Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Arabic Persian Research Institute, Tonk, India. Its editor has written 22 pages preface in which Abdul Qadir Bedil has been attributed at its poet.
