This article explores the varying patterns of the contextualized meaning provided beneath entries in Urdu Lughat (Tarikhi Usool Per) (Urdu Dictionary: (On Historic Principle)). The dictionary has its 22 hefty volumes. Its first volume was published in 1977 the last in 2010. The dictionary used sources spanning over 750 years old. The manuscripts and published works have been used as sources. It gives many examples where the volumes of the dictionary violated its own principles set. The article provided number of entries against those no meaning given neither from poetry nor prose. There is a tendency for selecting sources of usages where known and reliable ones have been neglected. The dictionary provided poetical examples for many of the words entered. The article highlights some errors in recording the poetical examples. The style for recoding sources are also varying. The dictionary mentions number of incorrect years of publications used to illustrate a meaning of a word.
